Our country is in crisis. More than 100,000 Americans are dead from COVID-19, over 40 million have filed for unemployment within the last few months and the recent killing of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, at the hands of a white police officer has brought even more pain to our nation. These are related tragic events.

We are writing this today with sentiments that we know are widely shared throughout our DC community. We condemn discrimination and violence against all Black people in any way, shape or form.

We want to express our solidarity with all those who grieve for the lives lost to police brutality, who live in constant fear of racial discrimination and who find themselves without hope in these dark times.

We believe that it is time for tangible change that actually helps the lives of our fellow citizens and neighbors of color. SIETAR DC is committed to combating injustice through intercultural education, training and research to support a more just and civil society.  We celebrate and honor diversity and inclusion by promoting intercultural understanding.

We recognize that the history of our field is an inherently privileged one and strive to do better. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have ideas on supporting each other and our field. In the face of these difficult circumstances, we will continue to promote empathy and justice and stand fast in our commitment and resolve to work with our community to build a better future.
