Our country is in crisis. More than 100,000 Americans are dead from COVID-19, over 40 million have filed for unemployment within the last few months and the recent killing of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, at the hands of a white police officer has brought even more pain to our nation. These are related tragic events.
We are writing this today with sentiments that we know are widely shared throughout our DC community. We condemn discrimination and violence against all Black people in any way, shape or form.
We want to express our solidarity with all those who grieve for the lives lost to police brutality, who live in constant fear of racial discrimination and who find themselves without hope in these dark times.
We believe that it is time for tangible change that actually helps the lives of our fellow citizens and neighbors of color. SIETAR DC is committed to combating injustice through intercultural education, training and research to support a more just and civil society. We celebrate and honor diversity and inclusion by promoting intercultural understanding.
We recognize that the history of our field is an inherently privileged one and strive to do better. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have ideas on supporting each other and our field. In the face of these difficult circumstances, we will continue to promote empathy and justice and stand fast in our commitment and resolve to work with our community to build a better future.
SIETAR DC (SDC) recently launched this new website, and today we are seeking a Communications and Marketing Intern to assist with developing a communications plan that will help us maximize the value of our page and other communication tools.
The Intern, who will work virtually, will be asked to review all of our current communication tools and advise us on best practices.
Complete an assessment of current SIETAR DC communication tools and practices.
Draft a communication plan for the organization to utilize for promoting events, recruiting new members and creating community.
As needed, provide training to SDC leadership to ensure their ability to implement the plan.
Update the website and other social media sites as needed.
The ideal candidate:
Is interested in the field of intercultural relations and/or international education.
Has experience with Wild Apricot, a similar membership management software or other CRM software (preferred but not required).
Has experience with Google, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Has strong writing, editing skills and an eye for details.
Can take initiative and be self-directed.
The exact timing of the internship will be negotiated between the intern and SDC leadership. The internship is expected to run from 8 to 12 weeks with up to 5 hours of work a week.
This is an unpaid internship. However, as an incentive, the intern will receive $100 upon submission of a completed communications plan. Additionally, the intern will gain tangible experience as a communications and marketing consultant. Other benefits include a free premium membership to SDC, and opportunities for networking and informational interviews in the SDC community.
If this sounds like a good fit for you to join our small team, please send a cover letter to SIETARDC@gmail.com to introduce yourself and attach your resume. If you would be doing this internship for college credits, we will be happy to assist you. We’re excited to hear from you! Thank you!
